Invitation – Holy Mass for the Knights of St. Columba
Holy Island of Lindisfarne – Saturday, 12th July 2025
A special Holy Mass for the Knights of St. Columba will be celebrated on Saturday, 12th July 2025, on the historic Holy Island of Lindisfarne, arranged earlier in January 2025. This sacred event marks a moment of spiritual unity and reflection for the Order, held in a place of profound Christian significance.
In attendance will be Worthy Provincial Grand Knight Brother John Fern and nine Brothers from Province 3 (St Andrews and Edinburgh), together with Brothers from the Berwick-upon-Tweed Council.
The Holy Mass will be celebrated at St. Aidan’s Catholic Church, Green Lane, Lindisfarne—a modern spiritual tribute to the legacy of St. Aidan. The church continues to serve as a place of worship for both locals and pilgrims, standing as a symbol of enduring faith and the historical continuity of Christian witness on the island.

Lindisfarne, known as the Cradle of Christianity in the North of England, holds a pivotal place in the early history of the Church in Britain. It was here that St. Aidan, sent from the monastery of Iona, established a monastic community inAD 635 and began the Christian evangelisation of Northumbria. The island soon became a renowned centre of learning and mission, closely associated with St. Cuthbert and the creation of the famed Lindisfarne Gospels.
